All
printers print 8.5 x 11 sheet size, unless you are one of the fortunate
ones that can afford one of those handy dandy 12x12 printers. (One of those is on my christmas list this year; and I hope Santa stuffs one in my stocking!) You can purchase packets of fabric sheets, but you can make your own!
Here's how:
Get
some freezer paper and cut it the exact same size as your normal
printing paper, i.e. 8.5 x 11. Find the fabric that you are wanting to
use for your project and choose the lightest, palest COTTON fabric that
you have for it and cut it exactly the same size. Ideally, you should
use a fabric with no pattern, but I have found that if the pattern is
very faint, it will do great, however, keep in mind that your picture
may take on a "transparent" effect, not totally, but if your image is
really light, it will show through. Make sure there are NO threads
around the edges to get caught in your printer.
Iron
the fabric to the SHINY side of your freezer paper. Having a popsicle
stick handy is a plus. Sometimes the corners tend to curl up a bit, so
while feeding your sheet in the printer, use the stick to keep it under
control and it will feed smoothly.
After
printing, allow it to dry thoroughly! Take a piece of parchment paper
and place it over your fabric sheet and iron. This will set the ink.
Remove
the freezer paper from the back and voila, you're ready to make
pillows, quilt blocks, jacket backs, pictures for framing, etc.
Anything
you make and print onto fabric will make WONDERFUL gifts and I can
assure you, your family and friends will NOT receive another gift as
precious and unique.
Good luck with this and let me know how your first project turns out!
